Exercise: Holding Low-Plank Position

image

Today: Hold this position for as long as you can.  Try and go for 1 minute.  Keep everything tight and parallel.  To make it even harder, put your feet together and squeeze and your core and legs/butt cheeks together.

This move is great for your core, stability, back, shoulders, arms and legs.  An overall amazing exercise.

SKINNY FAT:

URBAN DICTIONARY DEFINITION:

1. When someone is thin and looks great in clothes, but is all flabby underneath. (Certain models)

Some people have great figures, but in a bathing suit they are a mess- all skinny and fat like Miss Paris, who loves to show off her flabby ass for some reason.

2. This term is used when a person is thin, yet does not eat healthy or take care of themselves. They think they don’t need to watch the junk they eat because they are thin. They can be more unhealthy then an overweight person.

If a person can eat pizza, burgers, candy all day long and not gain weight, they would be considered skinny fat. They can still die from the same weight related diseases. That is Skinny-Fat.

3. Thin, but with high body fat. Like a runner, or a sedentary person who doesn’t eat much.

People who don’t lift weights to put on lean muscle tissue get skinny-fat. They’re thin but as weak as kittens.

AMAZING. haha.  This is what we DON’T want.

SUPERFOOD: Berries

image

Berries are:

-High in Vitamin C (1 cup of strawberries has almost as much Vitamin C as a cup of OJ)

- Has solid amounts of calcium, magnesium, folate and potassium.

- Has antioxidants that fight against cancer and helps clear your skin.

- Some berries contain Lutein, which help clear vision.

- 1/2 cup of berries is 50 calories

- Low glycemic fruit (doesn’t spike blood sugar levels)

Tastes great in oatmeal, whole grain cereals, smoothies, salads, and on top of yogurt and cottage cheese.

I eat 1/2 cup of berries everyday in the morning before my workout.

FEELING ACCOMPLISHED!

Today was the last day of my 4 week workout schedule I put upon myself a month ago.  And I freaking did it!  Felt amazing to do that last workout knowing that I accomplished what I set out to do.  Was it hard?  YES.  Did it require a lot of work and dedicated?  HELL YES.  But it’s all worth in the end.  I dropped 5 pounds and can now say that I’m in the best shape of my life.  I can’t wait to take it even further.  The next week I’m going to be easing out on the workouts.  The body needs to rest and recover so I’ll be just finding new things to do away from the DVD’s I usually work out to.  Once you’re fit, it’s fun to take things outside.  Sports, hiking, long runs, maybe I’ll try going to a gym, and drumming for me is a huge workout so I’ll be hitting that up for sure.  Also, I’ve realized that I’m done losing weight and want to build some strong lean muscle, so that means I get to eat more :):)  Happy about that.  Anyway, thought I’d share with you guys where I’m at right now with my health and fitness.  If you have any questions of workouts I do or my nutrition, please ask and I’ll post some answers up here.  Let’s get this tumblr going strong!  So glad to have you guys on board.

All the love,

Coby

Words of Wisdom:

Today I had a choice.  I could have done one thing and had it really inhibit the progress I’ve made and let myself become weak for that ONE split second, only to feel the effects of it 30 minutes later and be in pain and have it ruin my morning.  Did I do that?  HELL NO!!  I make the other choice.  The RIGHT choice. And the right choice for me is different than the right choice for you.  But here’s the beauty of nutrition and fitness.  It’s a science.  It’s not religion where you have to buy into some story or listen to what your elders tell you is right.  Health and fitness is a proven science.  Guys, if you workout everyday and eat less calories, you will LOSE weight!  It’s that simple.  If you choose oatmeal and eggs over greasy bacon and pancakes smothered in butter and syrup, that is the HEALTHIER and BETTER choice.  It’s about making the right choices day in and day out.  The little choices that we make on a daily basis over time will add up and will give you the life you want.  Know where you want to go and take it day by day so you can get there safely and efficiently.  The LITTLE choices are what makes up life.  I choose to eat healthy on a daily basis and exercise 6 days a week.  That’s my choice.  What’s yours?

And yes, I do treat myself occasionally (life would suck without ice cream, pizza and beer), but I’ve taught myself the beauty of MODERATION.  It’s something I live with everyday.  Our old bass player, and one of my dearest friends, Alex once said to me “i know you want to be healthy and fit, so why don’t you just accept that you have to work for it and live with it?”  I didn’t know it at the time, but he was right.  We all have our demons and our obstacles we need to overcome in order to live the life we want.  This is mine and I’ve slowly but surely learned how to overcome and make it WORK FOR ME!  You can do the same.

Do what fit people do:

Eat 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day in order to keep your metabolism burning.  Your body is like a car.  The higher quality gas (food) you consistently give it, the better it will run.  Treat your body like a Ferrari (or Honda Element in my case).
